Learning a new language is not an easy task. It takes years of practice, encouragement, and guidance. As classes become more and more diverse it is important for every teacher to be prepared to accommodate for English language learners. As I cruised the world of blogs I found a tool that would be great for any CLD student. Larry Ferlazzo created a blog space for students in ESL classes from around the world to create a short video explaining their culture in English (Student Showcase: From ESL/EFL Sister Classes Around The World). The videos were created using Voice Thread, then put into this blog so students can look at each others work. Not only can students learn about various cultures, but they also are encouraged to celebrate their own all the while practicing their English. This is a great idea for ELLs or for any student really. I definitely plan to incorporate this idea into my own instruction.
