When I look back at my educational career there are some bits of information that seem foggy. For example, what formulas to use in various situations or even the formulas themselves. This kind of information got me through tests then my brain decided to thoroughly prune those synapses. What I do know is the information that I retained was delivered in a meaningful way. Nicholas Provenzano in his blog, The Nerdy Teacher, discusses the power of storytelling in his latest blog. He makes a great point. The facts delivered bare may not be what a student needs to retain the information. Sometimes the facts embellished within a real story is exactly what students need. Gripping story-tellers may have exactly what it takes to be a successful and engaging teacher. While I find my story-telling skills to be lacking, this blog has inspired to sharpen my abilities to reach my students.
